“Universidad San Jorge” Foundation (hereinafter USJ www.usj.es) is a non-profit organization dedicated to training and research. Its mission is to serve society by creating and transmitting knowledge and contributing to the formation of integrity and good professionals.

Health Sciences Faculty is the operative centre of the researchers of this project, a group composed mainly from researchers in the area of Physiotherapy and with a lot years of clinical experience.  Main areas of research are:

  • Prevention of Musculoskeletal Injuries: USJ is currently leading the Prevent4Work EU project whose aims to develop innovative materials and technology to prevent and help self-management of musculoskeletal pain.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of different physiotherapy treatments and protocols in different specialties of physiotherapy (e.g invasive physiotherapy, musculoskeletal pain, cardio-respiratory) and underlying mechanisms to the symptoms of the patients.
  • Collaborate in the design of new products and services with other researchers and companies.
  • Develop new techniques of treatment and protocols that can be transferred to the public and private health systems.
  • Collaborate with companies from other sectors to transfer technology into the physiotherapy sector, like the EU project Motigravity which aims to transfer aerospace technology to improve gait rehabilitation in neurological patients.
  • Analyze the cost-effectiveness of different treatment alternatives.
  • Collaboration in development of new technologies to promote healthy ageing and lifestyles.

The Department of Health Science and Technology at Aalborg University was founded in 1978 and has been growing steadily ever since. The department has over 280 employees (230 scientific staff) with a broad research focus. All research conducted at Department of Health Science and Technology takes a mutual starting point; the human body. Our research spans “from molecule to society” covering aspects from the human cell and the molecules it is built from to the full human body. The department provides research based teaching to over 1600+ students within the fields of Medicine, industrial Medicine, biomedical engineering, sports science, sports technology, clinical science and technology, public health, health informatics, sexology, and pain.

University College of Northern Denmark (UCN)


Department of Physiotherapy, Collaborating University

UCN provides higher education, performs research, development and innovation activities within the four main areas of business, social education, health and technology. The health study programs at the University College of Northern Denmark (https://www.ucn.dk/english/home) covers five different educations. The bachelor’s degree program in physiotherapy is a 3½- year fulltime-study. The Department of Physiotherapy has approximately 500 students with 140 graduating every year. We combine high academic skills with clinical experience in many contexts ranging from health promotion -and disease prevention, acute care, rehabilitation and disability to disease management. The Department of Physiotherapy has two research programs focusing on research in physical activity and health promotion as well as research in rehabilitation and pain. The research activities at the Department of Physiotherapy at UCN are within health science with a strong focus on body, movement, physical activity and health at all stages of life. Our intention is to contribute to human health in general. We wish to contribute with translational research close to practice with focus on applicability.

INP Formación is a centre created in 1998, dedicated to the training of workers and unemployed in various families or training areas such as health, information technology, occupational risk prevention, agricultural and livestock and languages. Currently has an average workforce of 8 workers (administrative, teaching and computer) to which we add more than 250 external teachers who teach at the centre at any given time depending on the courses organized.

Collaborating Institute

IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi is a research hospital that provides high quality and volume of orthopaedic care to the Italian population through an agreement with the Italian National Health Service. The hospital provides yearly more than 12000 surgical procedures largely consisting on high complexity ones. IOG employs more than 4000 workers and co-workers who cover a wide spectrum of tasks that require musculoskeletal effort and thus are exposed to physiological MSK wear and injury.

E-Learning Solutions

VITECO is an Italian SME located in Sicily. Its staff is formed by professionals with engineering, graphic designers, business administration and marketing & communication backgrounds. It is a software and e-learning provider working both with national customers and European partners in EU projects. Its core business is based on VET and development of web-based solutions for collaborative learning and educational content management with a special focus on issues related to hard and soft skills development.

GEOSLAB is a Spanish SME created in 2007. They design and develop information systems and technological solutions in different thematic scopes, being our speciality dealing with geolocated information. They have a clear commitment with innovation reflected in our involvement in R&D projects in Spain and Europe, integrated in multidisciplinary consortia in which we contribute with technological support in Information Systems.
